BMC - The venue History Friends of the BMC

the bmc story

Brighton Media Centre (BMC) is the umbrella organisation which really has initiated practical support and development for the design/creative industries in Brighton. Since 1992 BMC has facilitated the growth of the local cluster by offering serviced office accommodation, good facilities, networking events, exhibitions, electronic networks, business support and information services aimed specifically at the sector.

The newly formed City of Brighton & Hove is now a UK location of pure excellence for all forms of media practice, and BMC is renowned nationally and now also internationally for its good experience in cluster development and management competence. BMC aims to continue its big expansion in Brighton with further development of the model and promotion of the sector.

There is increasing interest in outside organisations using the Friese-Greene Gallery and Studios, with several high-profile videos being filmed in our Green Screen area, and other photo shoots being carried out there.

The Brighton Festival Fringe had a great programme at BMC again, with other buildings also being brought into the presentations of art and creative events for the public, including a stunning exhibition of Performative Art from Jane Butler-Biggs, and hosting the “Show Below” collection of artists who again had more prize-winning works shown in our Gallery.

A movable stage and a bar have been added to augment the facilities I the Friese-Greene Gallery and Studios, and these are regularly used by hirers of the spaces – e.g several Private Views, an Art Market, various Performances, and the Penguin Book Launch.

Some well-attended and thought-provoking Networking Events have been held in the Studios, and this programme will be added to the usual Social calendar to be continued  and expanded.
