Brighton Media Centre (BMC) is the umbrella organisation which really has initiated practical support and development for the design/creative industries in Brighton. Since 1992 BMC has facilitated the growth of the local cluster by offering serviced office accommodation, good facilities, networking events, exhibitions, electronic networks, business support and information services aimed specifically at the sector.
The newly formed City of Brighton & Hove is now a UK location of pure excellence for all forms of media practice, and BMC is renowned nationally and now also internationally for its good experience in cluster development and management competence. BMC aims to continue its big expansion in Brighton with further development of the model and promotion of the sector.
1992
The first BMC is established at 11 Jew Street, funded in partnership with Brighton Borough Council and the British Film Institute.
Although the World Wide Web was only invented in 1991, this is being seized on as a fantastic tool for a whole new style of business and an alternative way of working – the “Global Village” is becoming a possibility – and a variety of creative people are moving into the new Media Centre to make this possibility a reality.
