GOODBYE EMILY

Emily We were very sorry to say goodbye to Emily at the end of last month, who has now moved on from her position as Gallery and Info Point Administrator for BMC. Emily is still nearby though, as she is working for Punch Communications, based at our Old Steyne site.

Emily did an excellent job in organising exhibitions in the gallery, writing ENews, dealing with conference room bookings and assisting the marketing and promotion of BMC. No doubt this experience will be an
ideal springboard for her new role in PR.

Wishing you the best of luck Emily!

HELLO HELEN

Helen You might have seen this new face around BMC recently. We are pleased to welcome Helen Taylor, who joined us on 12th May, working Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, when her young son Max is at playgroup. Helen's role is to cover reception points, to act as first point of contact for gallery and info point and to assist Carla with sales.

NEW FACES OVER SUMMER MONTHS

There will be some more new faces at BMC over the summer months as we will be taking on part time staff to help during the holiday period with Shelley West starting this week as relief reception cover.

FAREWELL FACILITATE

Facilitate, a medical communications and multi media business, who have been based in our site at 15-17 Middle Street for some time, will sadly be leaving BMC this week. They will be moving into the new premises they have just bought in Brighton.

Wishing you good luck with the move!

AIR CONDITIONING

Following enquiries by some companies into air conditioning, the following suggestions are being put forward:

1) A one-off installation to an individual suite, being paid for by that company and installed by agreement with BMC. The cost of installation would be written down over a period e.g. 2 years, so that if the company left the suite during the intervening period BMC would undertake to reimburse them a diminishing proportion of the installation cost.

2) An installation to a whole floor, with each company that benefits contributing to the cost pro-rata, based on floor area. This option has the merit of being more cost-effective, so that the overall cost of installation works out less for the companies involved. The same provision could be made about paying back a proportion should a company leave their suite.

3) A simpler solution, in providing a mobile a/c unit, of the type which has an outlet hose which needs to be led to the outside air e.g. through a nearby window. This could be bought by the company for itself, or it might be possible to provide such equipment from BMC and there could then be a rental charged for the use of it. Current hire charges appear to range upwards from around £48 per week for a 2 person office; BMC would be prepared to make this option available at a reduced charge, dependent on size of suite.

If your company would like to follow up any of these options, please make us aware of your requirements by e-mailing info@mediacentre.org and we would be happy to make an appointment with you to discuss this further.

N.B. It is important when buying a mobile a/c unit to check the noise level once in operation. Some users have reported to us that the unit from B&Q priced at around £180 is very loud! We can access low noise units for £260 + VAT. If you would like to see them in operation let us know.

RESTORATION OF MIDDLE STREET SYNAGOGUE

Middle You might not know that Middle Street, where two of BMC's buildings are based, is also home to a Grade II listed Synagogue, built in 1874 and with an interior that the Department of the Environment described as "an extremely sumptuous example of late 19th Century craftmanship..."

The Synagogue serves the local Jewish community as well as providing an educational resource for many schools and
communities in Brighton and beyond. Unfortunately, its future is in jeopardy as the interior and exterior of the building are in need of urgent repairs.

To raise funds and to 'top up' financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the congregation will be holding a concert, An Evening of Jewish Song, on 27th June in the Synagogue at 7.15pm. This is your chance to support the restoration process either by buying tickets for the event, or by advertising in the concert brochure.

Concert tickets range from £7.50 to £20. Advertising options range from Greetings at £50 to the full back page at £10,000.
