STAFF CHANGES BMC staff re-structure makes the company work better for our clients. Brighton Media Centre has carried out an appraisal of staff roles recently resulting in changes that you, as our clients, need to know about. The main change is that Carla Avery, who you will all know as the General Manager for the Centre, has now become Sales and Marketing Manager. In her new capacity, Carla will be able to focus on office space sales and company marketing in a way that her former position did not allow. To facilitate this new role, Caroline Hancock as Carla's assistant will move with Carla to become Sales and Marketing Assistant, based in the main BMC office (see office move update below). We are pleased to say that Christine Stevenson, previously Site Manager for the Old Steyne, has been promoted to Senior Site Manager, and as a result will be taking over many of the tasks that Carla performed as General Manager. With the support of of Jennie Hayward, recently appointed as PA to the Managing Director, the General Management of the Company should be in very capable hands. Jacqui de Groot, Financial Controller for BMC, has recently resigned her secondary function as Office Manager for the Centre, a role which will now mainly be absorbed by Chrsitine and Jennie, with support from the rest of the team. Christine will still be based at the Old Steyne and will be receiving support from one of the admin assistants BMC employs on a regular basis. Shelley West, who has been working on reception at 15-17 Middle Street and at the Old Steyne over the summer, is unfortunately leaving us to go and work at Roedean Girls School. She will be housemistress to the A level students and we are sure Shelley will have no problem keeping the girls in line! Good luck Shelley! Charlotte Alexandra, the new Site Manager has been appointed and you will be seeing her on reception from Monday 25th October. Helen Taylor and Helen Katsouris remain in their Administration Support roles. Sam Tolton and Alastair Dodd continue their roles as Technical Managers for the Centre. The staffing structures will soon be on our web site and new management boards will be going up in reception areas soon. IMPROVEMENTS TO FRIESE-GREENE HOUSE RECEPTION Don Elwick, Managing Director of BMC, has an update for everyone on the development plans for the reception at 15-17 Middle St. "For some time BMC has been negotiating with the freeholder for Friese-Greene House on various aspects of the building. A new Lease was achieved, and agreement in principle for some important improvements to the entrance and reception for the building. On that basis plans were drawn up, which seemed to incorporate the required changes. Unfortunately, the Planning Department, the Building Regulations and the Fire Regulations imposed on the situation have meant that we have literally had to go back to the drawing board. We are also incorporating adjustments to enable us to provide disabled access and toilet on the ground floor, to give DDA compliance. We are hopeful that the various approvals required will now be met, and we will be able to move ahead on some aspects of these improvements fairly soon. "Essentially, there will be a central entrance, where the existing loading doors are, and a Reception Point immediately adjacent, utilising the existing entrance area where the doors will be replaced with a "shop front" window. Beyond the lift lobby will be a more open space with room for a waiting area, displays and information, as well as access to post boxes. The whole area will be designed to be more welcoming and "corporate" in feel. A more centralised main reception will be a benefit for everyone at the Media Centre. We think it will be worth waiting for!" -Don Elwick, MD, BMCLtd FILM AND BOOK DEAL FOR BMC EMPLOYEE
Caroline has also just started a Dramatic Writing MA at Sussex University and will work part time at BMC whilst working on this and the book. Back to Top
