CONGRATULATIONS GARY FLOOD Gary Flood, who is based at the Old Steyne BMC site, married Sally Whittle on 28th August. They both jetted off to New England for their Honeymoon. Wishing you a happy start to your married life from all at BMC! NEW BMC STATIONERY By now most of you will have received our BMC invoices on blue SAGE paper. This was our first month's trial on SAGE and despite some teething problems with the changeover, things should be plain sailing from now on. Now this is done, look out for our our lovely new lilac stationary! LABOUR PARTY CONFERENCE & BMC CONFERENCE ROOM No doubt you are all aware that the Labour Party Conference will be residing in Brighton the last week in September. This will be a time of high security for Brighton generally. Please be vigilant and don't let anyone into our buildings whom you don't know. Some of you might have encountered the Detective Constables who assessed the view from 15-17 Middle Street last week. Remember, security officials always have special ID cards that can be checked with their superiors. This time of year does mean that BMC's Conference Room gets quite busy, so if you want to book the room at this time, please do contact us as soon as you can to avoid disappointment. In case you are unaware, we offer BMC clients a 20% discount off the rate of £16 per hour. Contact Helen Taylor at helent@mediacentre.org or on 201371. Back to Top

BMC Exhibitions

FRIESE GREENE HOUSE GALLERY There are two exhibitions this September in the new BMC Gallery space in the basement of Friese Greene House at 15-17 Middle Street, 'Sonic Art' and 'Convenience'. All clients are invited to come and see what is going on. Details below. SONIC ART MA Sonic Arts Student, Nathan Gregg, will be holding two multimedia installations at BMC, from 14th to 20th September. At Friese Greene House Gallery, Basement, 15-17 Middle Street, Brighton. Both installations will involve a variety of technologies that interact with the audience. In the first, audio-visual inputs and outputs will create a random, ever-changing series of sounds and images, affected and controlled by the audience gathered within the space. The second will utilise two robots programmed respectively to record sound and to play sound. The robots will move independently, running over magnetic tape (the kind used in tape recorders), guided by ultrasound to avoid collision into each other and the audience. As the robots move, one will play the sound picked up in the room and the other will record the sound onto the magnetic tape it is running over, creating a random, 'living' sound track, which, like the first installation, is affected and controlled by the audience. CONVENIENCE
The 'Convenience' collective Ali Bailey, Gabriel Birch, Alison Guile, Matt McQuillan and Nick Mortimer will become curators, artists, critics and attendants at the same time - taking the coined phrase 'artist residency' on a very literal basis. The show will exhibit work from a mixture of mediums and contemporary practices, collaborative installations being placed next to site and time specific pieces. '"As a group of artists we are all attracted to the mystery held in exhibitions and the gallery as a space. We want to disorientate the audience, to break down their preconceptions, but at the same time give them something to interact with - there is nothing worse than feeling like a passive spectator". Due to the nature of the exhibition, constant documentation throughout the week is essential. A variety of media, both formal and subjective, will allow the show to exist as a developing body of work in itself. Come hither and celebrate at the grand birth party or commiserate at the official wake. Back to Top
