FRIESE GREENE HOUSE RENOVATIONS


The works at Friese Greene House are progressing well.

Since last month's edition of ENews, we have finished installing the door and window to the new BMC office in the reception area of 15-17 Middle Street. The redecorating of the interior is now underway so that members of the BMC team can re-locate to the new office soon.
We will keep you updated on all developments. If you have any queries, please do ask your Site Manager.

BabyGoold A new arrival for Pete and Emma Goold of Punch Communications

Annie (short for Annabel) was born on 20th February at 9.04pm weighing 7lbs, 9 and a half oz.

We would like to pass on all our congratulations to Pete and Emma, based at 21/22 Old Steyne, for the beautiful new member of their family.

DIVERSITY MEANS BUSINESS ROADSHOW ON 20TH APRIL


FREE advice on diversity issues for BMC Clients and other businesses.

DiversityMeansBusiness The day will be packed full of advice, workshops and information, with businesses invited to drop in and find out what the buzz word 'diversity' is about.

The day will begin at 10am with a free breakfast provided by the Diversity Means Business team in the Friese Greene Gallery, 15-17 Middle Street.

Registration staff will be on hand in the Gallery from 10am until 12noon accepting bookings to the free of charge sessions, although places can also be reserved in advance by contacting Karen Barber, Project Co-ordinator Tel: 023 9284 1610 karen.barber@portsmouthcc.gov.uk. Whilst the sessions are all based at Brighton Media Centre, the invitation to attend is extended to external businesses too.

A Diversity Advisor will be on site, providing 30 minute advice sessions on a one to one basis and businesses can raise any issues, thoughts or concerns in a confidential environment. The Advisor will be happy to review company policies, discuss ideas for increasing diversity in both the workforce and customer base and can also advise on recruitment and retention issues.

Running along side this, a Diversity Trainer will be hosting hour-long taster workshops.'What is Diversity' introduces the concept of diversity and covers the different types of diversity and ways in which company policies can be adapted to encourage a diverse workforce. 'Reasonable Adjustments' outlines the Disability Discrimination Act and introduces what adjustments employers can make to be inclusive. 'Introduction to Races and Faiths' gives an overview of some of the different races and faiths found in the UK and 'Diversity Action Planning' enables a small group to work on ways to take their business forward by defining actions relevant to their business, with the support and assistance of the Diversity Trainer.

The Diversity Means Business project is financed by the South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) and the European Social Fund (ESF) with support from Portsmouth City Council.

DOUGHNUT DONE


Thank you to those clients who came along to our first Doughnut Day on 17th March.

DoughnutDay We held the event at Sumo bar with free coffee, tea and doughnuts for all attendees. The idea was to allow some informal networking amongst clients and staff, alongside relaxed icebreakers from Seriously Equipped.

INTERNET FRAUD WARNING


Beware of fraudulent responses to classified adverts, reports the Friday Ad.

The Friday Ad published a warning at the end of March to be vigilant against fraudulent responses to classified adverts - if someone offers more than the asking price of advertised items and goods, beware.

The police have a web site which contains useful information about internet fraud: www.met.police.uk/fraudalert/index.htm.



WOMEN IN MEDIA INITIATIVE


Women in Media Initiative launched by Wired Sussex on 8th March

The idea of the network is to support women working in the digital media industries by offering networking, training, events and advice. The project will also be undertaking research to identify the key issues as well as working with schools to encourage the next generation of women in the media.

JUBILEE LIBRARY


The new City Library on Jubilee Street opened on 3rd March.

JubileeLibrary The library is part of a £50m redevelopment scheme for the Jubilee Street area in Brighton. It can be found between Church Street and North Road, next door to the Prince Regent's Sports Complex. Apart from housing its 166,000 items including rare books, music, DVD and periodicals, the glass fronted library complex is home to conference facilities, an IT centre, a children's area, a young people's area, a shop and art installations on display to the public.

CLIMATE CHANGE CONFERENCE


Free climate change conference held by Brighton and Hove Council.

SatelliteWorld Brighton & Hove Council will be staging the conference at Hove Town Hall on 27th April from 10am to 3.30pm. Key speakers will address the issues facing Brighton and Hove, followed by workshops for individuals and organisations to discuss ideas on action that can be taken. Places must be booked by 13th April.

IOD ANNUAL CONVENTION


Institute of Directors Annual Convention supporting Company Directors around the country.

IOD This event will take place in the Albert Hall, on 27th April from 9am - an alternative to the Climate Change Conference (see above), which is being held on the same day.

Speakers will include Arun Sarin, CEO of Vodaphone and Sir Terry Leahy, CEO of Tesco. There will also be seminars, workshops and areas to relax and entertain clients. Prices range upwards from £293.75 for members and £352.00 for non-members.

BRIGHTON FESTIVAL


Book tickets now for the Brighton Festival, 7th - 29th May 2005.

BrightonFestival As usual, the festival will be offering a wide range of arts, music and performances throughout the season. The Festival Fringe will be back with all kinds of events from Brighton & Hove based artists and performers. There will also be a variety of free events to see and hear along the streets and parks of Brighton, including circus, comedy and pyrotechnics.
