MIDDLE STREET RECEPTION PLANS

Work is under way on the refurbishment of the reception area at 15-17 Middle Street.

Reception As you can see from the photo, Andy, our maintenance man, has begun phase 1 of the reception redevelopment at Friese Greene House. This consists of opening up the space where our head office team will be based. We are managing the works so they cause minimal disruption to our clients, by carrying out the heavy, noisy work out of office hours. To find out more about the developments please consult the plans which can be found on the wall in your reception point.

The work will continue at a steady pace over the spring and summer and we will keep you updated with all developments. If you do have any queries about this work, please contact your Site Manager.

SAVING THE PLANET WITH BMC

Brighton Media Centre wins an award for our Green policy

Brighton Media Centre has been active in promoting Environmentally-Friendly actions for many years now. We have made all sorts of initiatives to help our clients be Green as well - recycling is seen as an important contribution to the cutting back on wasteful use of ever-scarcer planetary resources and of reducing the amount of rubbish produced.

GreenActionAward We became interested in saving water used by the BMC urinals, as these used to flush happily away day and night, weekdays and weekends. We have now installed a control system to prevent this from happening when no-one is around, and have received a Green Action Award for doing so from Ecosys. This not only helps save the planet, it also saves money, and actions like these are helping BMC to keep control of the running costs for the direct benefit of our clients.

BMC have received a further accolade for their Green actions, by being selected to be filmed for a Case Study Video so that Ecosys and Betre can promote the Environmental message to other businesses in the region. This was highly successful, and the Case Study will be shown at Training Courses in the region to help increase environmental awareness and show how possible it is to make a difference. (We would like to thank those client companies here who were willing subjects for some of the filming.) At the same time, we are pleased and proud to be undertaking environmentally-friendly actions. We hope that you, our clients, are similarly happy that not only are we trying to save you from some of the ever-rising costs of workspace, but there is a warm glow from doing a little towards the urgent task of being Green for the sake of our one-off planet!

BMC have facilities for recycling:

- white paper (via Magpie recycling bags @ £1.25 each, to be filled with only white paper)
- cardboard (via Magpie as above, bags to be filled only with cardboard - no plastic or other rubbish)
- printer cartridges
- cd roms
- used postage stamps
- unwanted office furniture (by offering it to other companies here either free or at the desired price) - computers and other electronic goods (currently we are researching a suitable taker, which will come at a moderate price, as the new W.E.E.E. Regs make it illegal to throw electrical items away; they now have to be recycled). Visit these web sites if you need to dispose of your computers: www.computersforcharities.org and www.computerrecyclers.org

Contact your Site Manager to find out how you can make use of these facilities.

GOODBYE CHARLOTTE AND LEFKE

Wishing the best of luck to Charlotte and Lefke, who both left BMC in February.

Charlotte Charlotte has been a great help on Friese Greene House reception since she joined us in October. Sadly for us, she has decided to focus on her accessory and card designs and will be moving to sunny Cornwall to do so. First of all though, she is going to have a much needed rest back home in Newcastle to recuperate from manning the Friese Greene House door buzzer.

Lefke Lefke has provided invaluable admin and reception support for BMC during an extremely busy winter period and we are sorry to say goodbye to her. She is extremely keen to flex her web design muscles and has left BMC to make use of her skill and training in this area.

All the best for the future to Charlotte and Lefke!

Do say Hello to Helen as you go past so she can get to know everyone a little better.

BMC Exhibitions

30 MINUTES

The BMC Gallery is currently showing an exhibition by photographer, Stewart Weir, to raise funds for the Tsunami disaster.

"On the morning of 26th December 2004 I witnessed the largest natural disaster in my lifetime unfold before my eyes on TV. I'm not an established war & disaster photographer but I felt an urge to document what was going on and the effects this will have in the short and long term of those caught up by the tsunami in Sri Lanka. By the 27th December flights were booked and booster vaccinations given. I landed in Sri Lanka on the morning of the 5th January. Heading south all looked normal but just outside of Colombo it all changed very quickly. The devastation went from a few fishing boats sitting where they should not have been, to whole villages flattened. The acrid sweet smell of unfound bodies was still in the air even 2 weeks after the initial disaster. The job of finding missing people and clearing debris was the immediate priority. Now is the time that help is needed to rebuild the lives of these shattered people. What was caused in 30 minutes will take many years to rebuild."
