CLEANING

BMC's answer to Kim and Aggie?...

cleaners Helen and Carla have been cleaning up the kitchens and toilets in Friese Greene. With the help of some marigolds and strong detergent they have improved the general hygiene of these areas. If everyone using the communal areas could do their bit and tidy up after themselves it will benefit everyone concerned. Maintenance will be following this up by repainting the kitchens and toilets in the near future.

Holly BMC Information

Christmas hours, staff cover & security

We will be closing for Christmas on Thursday 22nd December at 2pm and re-opening on Tuesday 3rd January as normal. We will have skeleton staff cover in on Friday 23rd, Wednesday 28th, Thursday 29th and Friday 30th between the hours of 9.30-11.30am to check the buildings and distribute the post.
The Media Centre will, of course, be available to all our clients over the Christmas break. It will be possible to leave a note at the reception Point for your building if there is anything you wish to draw our attention to. The security company are also patrolling the sites every day over the holiday, and are available by phone should you notice anything suspicious.

Should something urgent come up, please contact the following:
-Emergency Tech enquiries: (01273) 201399
-Emergency Maintenance: 07956-696864
-Emergency Security SSG: 0870-608-1881

To ensure that we do not experience security problems over the holiday period (in particular, but also applies at normal times):
- Do not allow anyone else to "tailgate" into the building when you are entering or leaving - they can use their own key or card, or phone or use the buzzer system, but if they are not known by you to be genuine clients they will have to use their own means of access.
- Ensure all doors are closed properly behind you after you go through, both external and internal security doors, and that security code doors are never left "on the latch".
- Always check that you have unset your alarm on the way in, and set it on the way out.
- Take particular care when entering or leaving, as the common ways may be set or ready to set - go straight to the alarm pad to enter your code on the way in, and on the way out leave immediately you have set your alarm, to avoid unwanted activations as if you were an intruder.
- If the alarm begins to go off, enter your code straight away (but not too quickly). If there is a call-out, there will be a charge to cover the cost of this.
- Do not leave any windows open when you leave your office, as this compromises security for everyone, and may also cause the alarm to go off, thereby incurring a call-out charge.

happyholidays The above being taken as precautionary, there is a very high level of security here at BMC, to look after your interests. By ensuring that we all take care, there will be no cause for concern over the break.

And finally, on behalf of all the staff at the BMC we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very "Happy Christmas & New Year" and we look forward to seeing you again in 2006!

FRIESE-GREENE HOUSE - NEW ENTRANCE

The new entrance doors to Friese-Greene House are now operational, and along with the completed ceiling and Reception Office window, are a considerable improvement over the old entrance.
newrec The sloping entrance is already making deliveries easier, but actually it is there to facilitate entrance by people in wheelchairs, as part of the recent increased awareness that we now live in an inclusive society. There will be a specially-adapted w.c. in a further phase of the alterations, but first of all we are aiming to have the new Reception Office in place for early January. This will make it much easier for visitors to be met, and for deliveries to be taken, as the new Reception will have space for at least 2 of our staff to work there, providing a more continuous presence right at the front door.

Although this improvement has had to pass through many stages to be approved and put into action, we think it is going to make a real difference to the feel of the building!

BURNING OF THE CLOCKS - 21 DECEMBER, CENTRAL BRIGHTON TO MADEIRA DRIVE, 6PM APPROX

Burning the Clocks is an antidote to the excesses of the commercial christmas.

People gather together to make paper and willow lanterns to carry through their city and burn on the beach as a token for the end of the year.
No money changes hands no lantern is better for its purpose than any other, all are unique to the maker and precious but all are given up to be burnt to greet the lengthening days.
Burning the Clocks combines a family centred, workshop based, seasonal parade with a high quality fire show and fireworks for the whole city.
The lantern makers become part of the show as they invest the lanterns with their wishes, hopes, and fears and then pass them into the fire.
burningofclocks
The event is now celebrating its 11th year. The parade regularly consists of around 1,000 participants and attracts audiences of 15,000 people from the region.

If you would like to take part in the parade, the lantern making workshops start in December and are held at: Same Sky, The Old Post Office, 1 College Road, Kemptown, Brighton, BN2 1JA
.
For further information you can call the workshop booking line on 01273 573985 to reserve places or email info@burningtheclocks.co.uk
