THE BMC'S CHRISTMAS PARTY!

That time is upon us again when party preparations are in full flow, time to dig out your glad rags, get glittered up and join in the festivities!

Thursday 8th December at Sumo Bar between 6.30pm-1pm

Due to the success of last years charity raffle and the generosity of local companies donating the prizes, we will again this year be holding a raffle with the prize draw taking place at our Xmas party before the serious partying gets underway.

BMC Staff will be visiting all your office's soon to hand out party invites which also entitle you to a complimentary drink on your arrival (so don't lose them!) Raffle tickets will be available, £1 per ticket, from the reception points at 15-17 Middle Street and 21-22 Old Steyne. We've had some fantastic prizes in the past and I'm sure you will not be disappointed this year but more importantly all proceeds will be going to the "Asian Earthquake Appeal". So please dig deep into your pockets and buy generously!

The entertainment this year comes from "The Cadillacs" a five man band consisting of lead & rhythm guitars, bass, drums & vocals, who's play list cover a great repertoire of songs.

Cadillacs

Rhythm Guitarist Barclay Thompson (you might recognise him from Biz Vizion, based at BMC in 15-17 Middle Street) and the boys will be playing a two hour set downstairs at Sumo's. With an eclectic mix of songs ranging from 60's pop (Beatles, Stones, Kinks) to contemporary numbers (Pulp, Dandy Warhols, Oasis) and touching almost every reference point in-between. There's also a little bit of r 'n b and blues in the mix.

To find out more about The Cadillacs, visit their web site at www.thecadillacs.co.uk

This is a must see and we at the BMC defy anyone that will be able to sit this one out!

SME LOAN SCHEME TARGETS NEW BUSINESSES

The Government has announced sweeping changes to the Small Firms Loan Guarantee (SFLG) scheme, which will switch the focus of the scheme to start-ups and younger businesses. Barry Gardiner, Competitiveness Minister, confirmed that the Government will be implementing in full the recommendations of the Graham Review. The SFLG scheme guarantees loans from banks and specialist lenders for small businesses which would otherwise be unable to obtain a loan, because of a lack of security.

With effect from 1 December, eligibility for the SFLG will be limited to those SMEs which have been running for less than five years. The new scheme will also see an expansion of the lending limits, and an increase in the turnover limit for SMEs.

The forthcoming changes include:·the application of a single £250,000 lending limit to all eligible SMEs; ·increasing the turnover limit for all eligible SMEs to £5.6m; ·reserving resources to enable additional SFLG lending by banks that demonstrate a 'clear focus' on high-growth SMEs; ·reserving resources to incentivise a range of new lenders to join the scheme; ·removing the limit on the level of borrowing that individuals can be associated with (the 'connected persons' rule), so that lending is based on the business case rather than the borrowing history of individuals. Businesses eligible for the existing scheme under the current criteria are advised that all documents must be with lenders by the cut-off date of 28 October.

BMC Business Information

RECOMMENDED BUSINESS NETWORK

Are you moving in the right circles?....or is your current Business Network just an illusion?

rbn 96.4% of all businesses in the UK employ 5 people or less! Therefore the majority of people that run these businesses have to spend most of their time working in their businesses which leaves little or no time to attend networking events or create new business.

The Recommended Business Network (RBN) was estabilished to enable UK businesses to refer, and be referred nationally without regional or local boundaries or the need to personally know the business for which they have a referral - other than to know that the business is reputable and worthy of referral.

For less than £20 per month menbership fee the RBN do all that for you, as well as gaining exclusive access to all referrals for your products and services you will receive a finder's fee for RBN members that you introduce.

Notices

FIRE PRECAUTIONS

We are all obliged, legally and from common sense, to take all the right precautions to prevent fire, and to know what to do if a fire breaks out. Apart from the measures BMC take directly to comply with these obligations, there are notices put up around the Media Centre to remind people further about what to do about fire.
It has been brought to our attention that there could be a problem with the suggestion made about tackling a small fire yourself, as the CO2 extinguishers have delivery horns or nozzles which can freeze your fingers on to them if you were to hold that part while operating the device. There is a notice about that hazard on the relevant extinguishers, of course.
In order to make sure that problem never happens, we want to emphasise that it is really important to read the instructions on any of the fire-fighting equipment before using it. This could be difficult when under pressure to deal with a fire! - but you MUST take the time to read those instructions. It is also important to determine which type of extinguisher is used for which type of fire, so again, please read the instructions BEFORE starting to use one.
There are 2 types around the buildings:

) WATER - safe for wood, paper and textiles

2) CARBON DIOXIDE - safe for electrical fires and flammable liquids

As there is generally a lot of electrical equipment in all the offices, this can be taken to indicate that the Carbon Dioxide type of extinguisher would usually be preferred, as you won't get shorting-out of electrical circuits, sockets and cables and it doesn't make such a mess of your stuff! However, please still read the instructions first!

We all hope that warnings like this will never need to be used for real, but we do have to play safe.
