BUSINESS CORNERSTONES SEMINAR REPORT

[Article provided by Donald Elwick (MD of BMC) who attended the seminar]

Business Cornerstones recently held a Breakfast Meeting at Wickwoods Country Club that focused on various aspects of internet and website marketing. They themselves are a group of business specialists in key areas such as marketing, business development and sales strategies, and are ready with solutions to the changes that are rapidly coming to businesses with the migration of clients, suppliers and customers to the Web.

There were a number of presentations:

BUSINESS CORNERSTONES concentrated on: "Effective Business Improvement and Change". A key concept here was that, in order to change the Company Culture, it was no good attacking or rejecting the status quo head-on. There needed to be a change in the actual Company Climate, the environment in which it operated, which allowed the necessary changes to be accepted and developed positively.

Find out more: www.businesscornerstones.co.uk

NIXON MCINNES gave out some valuable and practical advice on "Internet Marketing". As a well-known and thoroughly professional website design company based here at BMC in Old Steyne House, it was good to see Will McInnes holding the audience enthralled and engaged with his great tips for improving a website - these #7 tips are available here and are well worth a read. Some of you may well want to "try these yourself at home"!

Find out more: www.nixonmcinnes.co.uk

SUMMIT SOLUTIONS area of concern is "Secure Business Storage Solutions". Andy White is very concerned about the masses of data information that is generally spread around the businesses computers, without easy retrieval, remote access, back-up or adequate security. The regulations in the USA, for instance, that are now requiring organisations to retain all data (including e-mails) securely and yet easily accessible for many years do require a whole new approach to the technology involved - and these regulations will be landing here shortly! Their Yeti Server systems are dedicated solutions to cover all aspects of security in a simple package.

ADVANCED MEDIA ASSOCIATES might well be the answer to your presentation requirements. Richard Wolfstrome (another previous BMC client!) and his colleague showed us "The Power of Dynamic Digital Multimedia". This was awe-inspiringly professional, powerful and polished, a carefully crafted Rolls-Royce voyage travelling smoothly through all kinds of blended media, virtual tours, voice-overs and content-rich interactive presentation material. They could be just the people to provide what you need to get that all-important message across.

SIMON FROM ARGYLL ENVIRONMENTAL

BMC Client Simon will be competing in the Trans Alp Challenge (TAC) this summer. What exactly is the TAC I hear you ask? Well it’s an 8 day stage race, completed mostly off-road on mountain bikes. The event covers c. 350miles and there is 25,000m of vertical gain during the 8 days. To put that into perspective that’s 3 x the height of Mount Everest!

The event is completed in pairs. Simon will be racing with his team mate Jeremy who both ride for a shop in Horsham - Freeborn Bikes and through them are supported by Ellsworth Cycles.

If you would like to see what fate lies in store for Simon you can visit: www.transalpchallenge.com

Simon has been told by some friends that he's quite mad for attempting this and that ‘normal’ people would be quite impressed by these efforts. Therefore, he's seeking both individual and corporate sponsorship to complete stages of the race and hopefully the whole event.

The charity he's collecting for is the Motor Neurone Disease Association, which is a charity close to his heart as, after many years of suffering, his mother was taken by this horrible disease.
If you would like more information about this disease then please follow go to: www.mndassociation.org

If you are able to assist in sponsorship then please email Simon at simon.turner@argyllenviro.com.

In due course he will be setting up a website that will enable on-line donation of funds.

THE BEST OF LUCK SIMON FROM EVERYONE AT THE BMC!

RACE FOR LIFE 2006

SPONSORSHIP NEEDED!

BMC staff Carla and Helene will be taking part in the Race for Life at Stamner Park on Saturday 1st July.

Since Race for Life began in 1994, women across the country have raised over £100 million for Cancer Research UK. The event which is sponsored by Tesco has set themselves an ambitious but not unrealistic fundraising target of 46 million.

All the money raised will help fund the life-saving research of Cancer Research UK the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research.

raceforlife If anyone would like to sponsor Carla or Helene there will be forms at the 15-17 Middle Street and Old Steine reception points. They aim to raise at least £100 between both of them and would be grateful of the generosity of YOU the BMC clients in order to make this deserving cause worthwhile.

TAX RETURN DEADLINES SET TO CHANGE

Article courtesy of 'Business Heads'

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has announced plans aimed at boosting online tax services, which are set to impact on the deadlines for self assessment tax returns, in line with the recommendations of the Lord Carter review.

The key recommendations made in the review include:

-requiring businesses to file their VAT returns, company tax returns and PAYE in-year forms online in phases from April 2008
-introducing new filing deadlines for income tax self assessment returns of 30 September for paper submissions, and 30 November for online returns, from 2008
-promoting online filing by withdrawing computer-generated paper 'substitute' self assessment returns from 2007/08
-removing perceived barriers to the early filing of self assessment and company tax returns by linking the period HMRC has to query a return to the date it is filed.
The new online filing requirements are expected to apply first to large and medium sized VAT traders and employers. New VAT traders will also be required to file their VAT returns online from the outset. From 2010, companies, most small VAT traders, and all small employers will be required to file online. The smallest self-employed businesses will not be required to comply until at least 2012.

HMRC says that it will implement the measures when the appropriate IT systems are in place and have been fully tested, and that it will consult with businesses, taxpayers, agents, software developers and other stakeholders on the implementation. Paymaster General, Dawn Primarolo, said, 'We welcome Lord Carter's report and it’s important recommendations on the way HMRC does business online in the future. An expansion in electronic delivery of tax returns will benefit businesses and taxpayers with savings of £175 million a year through streamlining the filing process'

GROUP F - THE LIGHT PLAYERS

The Brighton Fringe Festival is upon us again! Starting on Saturday 6th May and running for three weeks until Sunday 28th May. The Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary as the leading arts Festival in England.

Brighton Festival is an annual showcase for the very best in new theatre, music, dance, performance and books, from both local and international artists. Throughout three weeks bulging at the seams with fantastic live entertainment the Festival aims to bring great art to one of the UK’s most creative cities and harness the creative energy of that City to make great new art of its own.

One outdoor event not to miss is Group F: The Light Players taking place at Preston Park on Saturday 13th May at 10pm.

To celebrate the 40th Festival, Groupe F returns with a brand-new show "Joueurs de Lumières" (The Light Players), a pioneering fusion of pyrotechnics and theatrical imagery.

pyrotechnic

Groupe F is the largest and most successful pyrotechnic company in the world. They famously 'exploded' the Eiffel Tower on Millennium Eve and opened the Athens Olympic Games in an incandescent blaze of glory.
Inspired by visions of the earth from above, The Light Players combines stunning visuals with pyrotechnics fired live by the company members, who are literally 'playing with lights'. Using light, shadow, a battle of pixels, flying machines, live music and soaring jets of flame to paint the sky, this is no conventional firework display. This is pyrotechnic alchemy!
Unmissable!
