COMMON PURPOSE EXPANDS AT BMC

CommonPurpose

The Brighton & Hove office of national leadership development organisation Common Purpose has announced the creation of an expanded, higher-capacity team with the appointment of a new Programme Director and a new Programme Administrator.

New Programme Director Andrew Lacey brings a broad range of skills and experience to the role, including PR, marketing, group facilitation and running a small business. He is no stranger to the city, having lived and worked here for the past five years. Andrew says, "Over the coming months I'll be calling on businesses and institutions in our community urging them to put forward key personnel for our various programmes. Taking part in Common Purpose is probably the best investment any organisation can make in developing leaders and it has the added benefit of helping leaders understand how our community really works."

Also new to the team is Programme Administrator Lucy Holmes, a recent graduate in Information and Media Studies, while Eleanor Mooney has been promoted to Programme Manager.

To accommodate this expansion, the Common Purpose team has moved from the Biz Vizion Accelerator, based at 15-17 Middle Street, to their own office in the Media Centre at 68 Middle Street.

  Current BMC Exhibition

HAPPINESS

An exhibition of paintings, etchings and dolls from Azumi Sakata and Nick Sebley

BMC Gallery, 9-12 Middle Street, Mon-Fri 10am-5.30pm

NirvanaSebley Azumi Sakata graduated from the RCA but now works in Tokyo as a toy designer. For this exhibition she has made dolls and etchings that are both funny and strange. In her etchings she uses a delicate and time consuming technique called chincolle that is unusual to see in western art. Her work is centred around the theme of happiness - in particular finding sustenance and renewal in bleak places and mind states.

Nick Sebley graduated from Brighton University. He makes his own paint from clay, chalk and bricks from the south downs and then re-creates urban motifs - Burberry check, St.George's Cross, etc. He also paints images of buddhist mandalas that somehow double as plans of shopping malls. The intention behind this is to to create artworks that are an anti-dote to the mental noise of city life and reconnect the commercial and urban with the natural world.

The show runs from 12th July-26th July. The artists can be contacted on elwisty90@hotmail.com

STRONG BONES

StrongBones BMC is pleased to be helping the charity, Strong Bones, by sponsoring their current appeal in support of Jade, a young girl who has suffered with poly articular idiopathic arthritis since the age of five. The disease is a very severe form of arthritis and is very painful.
The charity has asked us to raise just £25 to go towards the £5,500 cost of converting the garage in Jade's family home into a gymnasium, which will house the variety of gym equipment and medication that Jade needs.

If you would like to sponsor this appeal, please go to your reception point to sign the form and to make a donation. Your donation can have double the power if you mark your sponsorhip as 'Gift Aid', entitling the charity to claim the tax back.

We must return the sponsorhip forms to the charity by 8th July, so your deadline to sign them is noon on Wednesday 7th July.

To find out more about the charity, you can visit their web site at: www.strongbones.org.uk
