Guess who?
Can you guess the identity of this foxy
chick?
Clue: It's a familiar face from our Old Steyne site...... The first correct answer sent to emily@mediacentre.org wins a bottle of Peach Sourz. New C4 TV show Does your mate never get a round in? Does your neighbour play music full blast in the middle of the night? Is your flatmate always in the fridge but never pays for their share of the shopping? Is there a dispute or niggle in your life, from the sublime to the serious, that you want to resolve once and for all? If the answer is yes, endemol want you to take part in a brand new show - you could even win a cash reward! For more information or to apply call Lucy on 0208 2224066 or Katy on 0208 2224651 or email katy.mullan@endemoluk.com Architecture in our City
There is a common thread running through all these things, which could perhaps be expressed as: `The place where anyone can be what they really want to be`. The community here really doesn`t mind whatever your inclination, we won`t give you a hard time over it, and we don`t shock easily! Enter stage left the new architects Piers Gough, Nick Readett-Bailey, Richard Rogers and Frank Gehry! The first two of these recently took the platform at the City Forum, and gave a presentation of some controversial but stunning new projects. They believe ardently in the proposals for the King Alfred site and the futuristic floating sea-structure, which could between them totally revitalise Brighton & Hove`s seafront and city-scape. Our city has, they argue, rather lost its way over the last few decades, and the impetus that made Brighton so attractive in the Georgian and Victorian periods needs to be refuelled. This should be a city where fantastic, improbable, uplifting and exciting things happen, a city of Fun and Creativity! The effect of erecting landmark buildings in other cities, such as Los Angeles, Bilbao and Sydney has shown how these act as a magnet, a trigger for a surge in general creativity that brings even more adventurous people and investment flocking in. Let`s get these projects off the ground, see off the fuddy-duddies that would see Brighton go the same way as the West Pier, stop the lack-lustre developments which have plagued our city for too long, and welcome in a fantastic, daring, fun 21st century! It is time that Brighton & hove reclaimed its real heritage that of being `The Place To Be!` - whoever you are! Don Elwick, May 2003.
