BMC bags the "BRIGHTON FESTIVAL AWARD FOR INNOVATION"

Don, our MD attended the award ceremony with his brother Ian to accept the award on our behalf.

In Don's words, he describes the evening:

"This all happened, at a post-Festival Show in the Udderbelly. Ian and I went along, as representatives of BMC, invited by the Festival and Fringe.

After some considerable time spent drinking, chatting, and watching some superb Papua-New Guinea tribesmen running around in the rain in feathers, nosebones and leaves waving bows and very real arrows, lighting a fire with the proverbial two sticks, and singing the while, we all trooped into the Big Tent to enjoy the Award ceremony.

What a treat! Jimmy Carr, no less, as the Presenter, on great and highly amusing and spontaneous form - Brighton's various foibles came for a good roasting, hugely funny, as did quite a lot of the audience, who were definitely "up for it".

What more can I say!?

There were a great number of awards, interspersed with excerpts from various Festival events, all good fun. In the end (and it was near the end, and extremely freezing in an unheated tent at 11.30 p.m!) BMC were nominated for two Awards. We actually received the "Award For Innovation", to a very heart-warmingly loud and rousing applause and cheering from the audience. This Award felt right, more than the other Nomination for "Best Venue Award", which was rightly won by Komedia.

It has recognised the hard work and planning our staff, especially Helene and Caroline, and not forgetting Andy and Lawrence, have put in over the last few months and weeks to make this year's Festival here such a success.

It has also been a developing and learning experience, and something we can build on and make even better, to encourage the .local cultural community to use our Facilities, make the most of our great Multi-Media Studios, and put Brighton Media Centre even higher on the Brighton Tree, so to speak!

Thanks to all of you for all that has gone towards our gaining this definite mark of appreciation from the Festival people, who were most impressed by what they saw and experienced here, not least the enthusiasm and dedication to service and helpfulness from our Team!

"Well done to everyone involved!"

Also, Congratulations to two of our exhibitors who won first and second prize in the Brighton Visual Arts Awards.

Graham Carter came first with his digital print 'serendipity' and Anna Kyriacou came second with her 'boy and girl' sketch. Both artists were exhibiting in the same show at the Brighton Media Centre Gallery which made the award all the more special.
