Health Testing Session Proposed at BMC

In an environment where preventative health is high on the national agenda we are pleased to announce that we will be working with Medichecks to bring you affordable health screening. We have negotiated health screening packages at large company discounts which will benefit smaller businesses that could not otherwise take advantage of these rates.

Medichecks has put together a number of different health screens which will suit every budget. In most cases this benefit is paid for by the employer but Medichecks also has many clients where the staff pay for their own health screen - it is your choice. Is it worth investing in health screening? The answer is a resounding YES:

  • Health screening is a benefit which has a very high perceived value amongst employees
  • It is tax free
  • Affordable (from as little as £37 per person)
  • Can help prevent long term absenteeism through chronic illness (this can be a major cost to a small business if a key individual is absent for long periods)
  • Convenient - Medichecks will come to you saving you time and money
There are many benefits to the Medichecks service. In particular they offer convenience - the Medichecks nurse will conduct the health screening on the premises; flexible packages from a Minicheck at £37 per person to a comprehensive Well Person Check Plus at £197 - all at significant discounts to their individual prices; Medichecks have extended their offer to include husbands/wives/partners and they provide a follow- up service through regular health information updates.

Please let us at BMC know whether you are interested in taking up this offer of health screening, either personally or as a Company for your staff. Once we have an idea of numbers, Medichecks will contact you with full details of all health screen packages available with the negotiated discounts. Appointments will be made directly with Medichecks using their on-line booking system.

If you are in any doubt about whether to have a health screen, remember this:

  • High blood pressure and high cholesterol can damage your cardiovascular system including your heart but, without testing for them, you won't know whether you have these conditions. Regular screening can tell you what your numbers are and whether you need to take action.

  • High levels of sugar in your blood can show whether you are at risk of developing type II diabetes. It is estimated that 1 in 4 people with diabetes goes undiagnosed. Diabetes accelerates many of the diseases associated with ageing and, undetected, can damage eyes, kidneys, limbs and heart.
The good news is that many of these risk factors can be reversed through lifestyle changes and/or medication. Even most basic health screen the Minicheck will check your blood pressure, your cholesterol and your blood sugar level. Get tested and get informed!

BMC, in conjunction with Helen Marsden.

97% of PR Leaders Blame The Banks For Current Economic Uncertainty

Article courtesy of 'Fresh Business Thinking' by Claire West

The PRCA PR Leaders' Panel (made up of managing directors of members of the Public Relations Consultants Association, the UK trade association that represents the PR industry in the UK) has released the following survey results.

While 59% of PR Leaders do not believe that the UK has talked itself into recession, a majority place the blame for the current UK economic uncertainty at the doors of the banks with 65% believing them to be very responsible, and a further 32% believing they have contributed to the situation. The level of responsibility placed at the doors of the Government and the media was less, with around a third of respondent believing them to be very responsible.

Have we talked ourselves into a recession?

  • No - 59%
  • Yes - 41%
How responsible are the banks for economic uncertainty in the UK?
  • Very responsible - 65%
  • Have played a part - 32%
  • Not responsible - 3%
How responsible is the Government for economic uncertainty in the UK?
  • Very responsible - 30%
  • Have played a part - 57%
  • Not responsible - 13%
How responsible is the media for economic uncertainty in the UK?
  • Very responsible - 36%
  • Have played a part - 45%
  • Not responsible - 19%

Francis Ingham, PRCA director general said "Only three per cent of PR Leaders absolve the banks of responsibility for the position we're in -that says it all. The finance sector is going to have to manage its reputation very carefully over the coming months. Government using tax payers' money to ease liquidity while consumers see their mortgage rates and credit card costs rise, could create anger towards the banks and the Government alike."

Do You Know If You Are In Your Right Mind?

Thought provoking..

This is a video clip of a presentation by Dr. Jill Taylor, who is a practicing neurosurgeon who underwent a stroke while remaining conscious, and has been able to "report back" with a professional view of her amazing experiences of her "normal mind" disappearing, leaving only the right hemisphere active for a while.

It is 18 minutes long, but quite enthralling. Once you click on the link, simply scroll down quite a long way, until the video display comes up in the main box.
