NEW EXHIBITION AT BMC GALLERY
......................................................................................
This month in Brighton Media Centre Gallery you can see the series entitled
Working Class Nottingham by Annabelle Le Clercq.
Annabelle Le Clercq "Social documentary inevitably contextualises the reality of life, and in this case, urbanisation and poverty. These images are intentionally vehicles, or processes for 'stripping away'.
Annabelle My images do not aim to contrive any truths; they merely 'exist' in a purist form to hold up to us the mirror of life without privileges. As one whose very status as a student confers privilege, there is a compelling need to avoid glorification and patronage, and a clear divide exists between subject and viewer.
I have attempted to depict these children as they are, a combination of innocence and corruption; the inevitability of thier lives is apparent. It is almost as though these children are trapped in the environment within which they have been photographed - thier urban playground."
Annabelle Le Clercq 2003

The show also features work from the series 'Close Encounters'

CYCLE NEW ZEALAND
......................................................................................
In November this year, Richard Newton of WPB Events, will be taking part in the UNISON Sponsored Cyle Ride accross New Zealand. His route will cover a total of 345km, coast to coast across the South Island and will take a total of six days. Richard will be putting in an enormous effort to complete this challenge and to raise a substantial amount of money for the charities he is supporting.
Thanks to the generosity of UNISON Holiday Club, every penny Richard raises in sponsorship will go to the charities - not one penny will be used to subsidise his participation.

The charities that will benefit for the sponsorship are UNISON Welfare, Community H.E.A.R.T and The National Deaf Children's society.
If you feel you are able to help with sponsorship please contact Richard Newton on 01273 648390 or email Richard

LEARN SOMETHING USEFUL!
......................................................................................
We would like to organise some training events to be held at BMC. If there is enough interest, we aim to run CACDP Stage 1 British Sign Language course soon. The course will be run by Sign Club who feel strongly that adults should be taught by a well qualified Deaf tutor. If you are interested in participating in this coures, please email Emily and indicate that you will like to take part. Final details and dates will be arranged if enough people express an interest.

Also on the agenda is a First Aid course. It is a legal obligation on every employer to ensure that their employees recieve the right First Aid care in the workplace. First Aid provision can prevent minor problems or injuries from becoming major ones. We would like to organise a First Aid at Work course to be held at BMC. Please express your interest in participating by email to Emily and again, if there is enough interest then final dates and details will be arranged.

If you would like more details please contact Emily by email or on 01273 201371.
