THREE PEAK CHALLENGE
Over the weekend of 21/23 May, Tim Griffiths of Hillingar took part in and completed the 3 Peaks Challenge as part of a teams from the Cadia (Gatwick Diamond) Networking group.
“The 3 Peaks Challenge is to climb the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, Wales and England in the space of 24 hours. That means setting off early to climb Ben Nevis (1344m) starting at only 20m then driving to the Lake District to climb Scafell Pike (977m) starting at 70m with the last of the ascent and the descent being done in the dark and then driving to Snowdonia for the final peak – Snowdon (1067m) and starting at 359m. The total ascent – and descent is 2939m. The challenge is a very tough one – especially as there is no guarantee of fine weather – we have to expect cold, rain and wind - some will be in the dark and the only chance of sleep is in the mini-bus. All being well we shall be celebrating over breakfast in Llanberis before making our way home.”
The team are aiming to raise £10,000 for local charities and have so far raised in excess of £7,300 but are looking to find the last £2,400 for reach the target.

DC Storm to 'Paddle Round The Pier'
Saturday 3rd July
Welcome one and all to the greatest sea battle since Sir Francis Drake beat that Spanish Armada bunch of dinghy thingy's!
DC Storm are entering 'Paddle Round The Pier' on Brighton/Hove Beach for charity. The three worthy charities this year are the RNLI, Whoopsadaisy & Surfaid. We have created two just giving pages for the RNLI and Whoopsadaisy, but unfortunately Surfaid isn’t available to do this. We have sponsorship forms for those that would maybe like to donate cash or a cheque on the day, and we think that these funds should probably be in favour of Surfaid. But that’s for PRTP to decide.
The event consists of building a supposedly sea worthy vessel, and paddling it around the now derelict West Pier on Hove seafront. Sounds simple ey? Well it would be if it wasn't a 21m square raft resembling half a football pitch, (with 11 sailors re-enacting the famous 1990 semi final England vs Germany penalty shoot out, while trying to navigate the course!) built by folks who have no business building such things!
The PRTP festival is on Saturday 3rd/Sunday 4th July, although the main event takes place on Sunday July 4th on Brighton/Hove beach from 11.00 onwards. If you would like to come to Brighton for the day, watch DC Storm struggle round the course (possibly sink), enjoy the seaside, and most importantly.....see them do their damndest to beat the Germans in a toe to toe penalty shoot out, they’d love to see you there. There’s going to be plenty of food stalls, lots for kids to do, music etc, it really will be a great day out! There's BBQ and beers afterwards for those that make it down (Hove Lawns from about 16.00). Be great to see you there!!
