Brighton website seeks local businesses to feature in careers advice videos

BrightonJobSearch.com is expanding its online Careers Advice section and is looking for local business to get involved. In addition to listing jobs in the local area, BrightonJobSearch.com also offers a growing Careers Advice section where jobseekers can find information on a wide range of issues from redundancy to CV writing tips.

The company plans to create short advice videos which jobseekers can view for free. The videos will feature local business figureheads offering advice related to their field of expertise.

“Our short video interviews will be featuring people from Brighton’s business community. For example a local solicitor might want to discuss what they look for when recruiting graduates, or the manager of a local hair salon might want to give advice on how the NVQ training programme works.” says Mr Way, “Jobseekers will be able to gain important insight into topics such as interview skills and local businesses will receive some great PR in return”.

If you would like someone from your business to be featured offering advice to jobseekers in the area on www.BrightonJobSearch.com

Please contact Nick Way on 0845 680 0829 or email nick@allregionaljobs.com

  • BrightonJobSearch.com is a recruitment website dedicated to the Brighton area.
  • The service is completely free to job seekers.
  • The careers advice section can be found here

Digital Media Jobs and Skills Fair

Boost for new media job seekers in Brighton

Wired Sussex, an independent, not-for-profit organization which works with digital media companies based in Brighton and beyond, is running the Wired Sussex Digital Media Jobs + Skills Fair for its second successful year on February 26 2009.  The Fair will be held from 12 – 8pm at Brighton’s Corn Exchange and will bring together the cream of the city’s digital media companies, plus colleges, universities and digital media course providers under one roof to meet and talk to those looking to start or develop their careers in games and digital media.

Companies exhibiting include Cogapp, WPM Internet, Relentless, and Leapfrogg; and digital media course providers such as the Universities of Brighton and Sussex and Northbrook, Hove, South Downs and City Colleges.   The fair will be extensively promoted through The Argus and through Wired Sussex and exhibiting companies’ own networks.  The initiative is supported by SEEDA, SEMN, Brighton & Hove City Council and The Argus.

Brighton is the fastest-growing hub for digital media in the UK, with over 750 games, web, animation, technology and digital media companies employing thousands of people in many different roles and positions. The Fair will be the premier event in the region for:

  • businesses looking to recruit or to promote themselves to potential employees,
  • organisations providing training or courses related to digital media
  • job-seekers interested in kick-starting or developing their careers in digital media
  • anyone who wants to become a freelancer in the sector

Phil Jones, MD of Wired Sussex, said "There are still a significant number of vacancies in the digital media sector regionally. Companies are keen to find individuals – freelance or permanent - with the right expertise, and being able to demonstrate that you have those skills will only become more important. The Fair will provide a wealth of information for anyone who wants to develop their digital media career, with careers advisors, information for freelancers and an evening talk on future proofing your skills from New Media Age editor Mike Nutley."

Companies interested in exhibiting should contact Wired Sussex directly: jo@wiredsussex.com; those interested in attending as a job-seeker can register for free tickets at www.brightonjobfair.co.uk

Art on our walls.

As mentioned in last month's enews we are displaying the work of local artist Jacqueline Hammond in our meeting rooms and Reception areas.

Many clients have commented positively on Jacqeline's work, so why not read in more detail the inspiration behind her work.

Jacqueline Hammond is a Brighton-based artist and illustrator who takes inspiration from “life's rich tapestry and the constant flow of images absorbed by a discerning eye”. The themes found in Jacqueline’s diverse and acclaimed work vary from Cuban street scenes depicting 1950's cars; a colourful, comic strip take on Venice; characterful portraits; highly populated and finely detailed studies of beach activities; sunsets, sky and cloud formations; imagined worlds and creatures; and more thought-provoking pieces that make a statement or prompt discussion.

Using the medium of acrylic, as well as watercolour, pen and ink, Jacqueline produces paintings that often have a noticeably graphic feel. Rich-in-colour canvases dominate her collection and the ‘hyper reality’ of images is brought out in many of the works.

Recent projects range from capturing the height of summer by depicting the kids who play on Brighton’s sea groynes to Jacqueline’s recent exhibition at Brighton Jubilee Library which combined the traditional beauty of a field of poppies with the symbolic role of the poppy in association with war throughout history.

Jacqueline is represented by the renowned McNeill Gallery (www.mcneillgallery.co.uk) and was finalist in an internet- based competition, Seeking Picasso (www.seekingpicasso.com) in 2007. Her full range of work can be viewed at www.jacqueline-hammond.com

Do you require illustration or artwork for your project?

Whether you’re producing web graphics, a banner ad, CD ROM, presentation, brochure, flyer or other form of print media, sometimes a photo doesn't go the extra mile. In many situations, a custom illustration is the best way to get your message across. Perhaps you need a professional to illustrate something that only exists in your imagination?

Jacqueline is available to provide illustration or fine art for graphic design purposes.

Bespoke images can be commissioned or you can choose from the library of ready-to-use images, paintings and prints at www.jacqueline-hammond.com

For further information, contact Jacqueline Hammond on 07977486603 or email: jaxxhammond@aol.co.uk

And Finally.....

How the Wall Street Bailout works in layman's terms:

Young Chuck moved to Texas and bought a Donkey from a farmer for $100.
The farmer agreed to deliver the Donkey the next day.

The next day he drove up and said, 'Sorry son, but I have some bad news, your donkey died.'

Chuck replied, 'Well, then just give me my money back.'
The farmer said, 'Can't do that. I went and spent it already.'
Chuck said, 'Ok, then, just bring me the dead donkey.'
The farmer asked, 'What ya gonna do with him?'
Chuck said, 'I'm going to raffle him off. 'The farmer said: 'You can't raffle off a dead donkey!'
Chuck said, 'Sure I can. Watch me. I just won't tell anybody he's dead.'

A month later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, 'What happened with that dead donkey?'
Chuck said, 'I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at two dollars a piece and made a profit of $898.'

The farmer said, 'Didn't anyone complain?'
Chuck said, 'Just the guy who won. So I gave him his two dollars back.'

Chuck now works on Wall Street for AIG.
