A film school whose alumni includes Zoe Ball and teen star Alex Pettyfer is being sold by its aristocratic owner.
The Brighton Film School has attracted hundreds of aspiring film-makers, producers and directors from around the world since it was established in 1998 by Archduke Franz von Habsburg.
Yesterday the school was advertised for sale for £200,000 on www.businessesforsale.com.
The website states: “Having run the business for over ten years, the current Owner (sic) feels the time is right to pass the School on to new Owners to build on the excellent foundations already laid which will enable him to pursue other elements within the film industry.”
A respected figure in the film world, Archduke von Habsburg attended the London Film School in the sixties and went on to shoot features, commercials and television programmes such as The Avengers.
The aristocrat set up the facility, which teaches the practical side of film-making, after spotting a disused drama school in Kemptown eleven years ago.
It has since built up a superb reputation within the industry, teaching hundreds of students from around the world.
Demand was so great the school needed to expand and moved to its current location in the Sussex Business Centre, Ditchling Road, in 2004.
Television presenter Zoe Ball studied film production there in 2003 while Alex Pettyfer, who took the title role in hit movie Alex Rider: Stormbreaker, also attended in recent years.
Other notable alumni include television producer Melissa Clive and The Graduate author Charles Webb, who wrote his famous novel before attending classes on directing.
Speaking to The Argus when he opened the school at its new location in 2004 The Archduke said he hoped it would generate greater awareness of Brighton and Hove’s contribution to the early history of the cinema.
He added: “I want to bring Brighton and Hove to the forefront of film-making with students from the school helping the film crews, even if it is just making the coffee.”
The Argus contacted Archduke Franz von Habsburg but he declined to comment.
