CLEAR COMIC DEVELOPMENT

If you like graphic novels – you’ll love this:

BMC based business development consultant Barclay Thompson has been advising an independent publisher of graphic novels, Pulp Theatre Entertainment. Pulp Theatre has recently achieved remarkable success in the UK television arena with Channel 4’s education division launching their newest graphic novel, Alien Ink, online.

The series will run for thirty episodes and can be seen at www.pressurecomics.com or www.alienink.co.uk. The story follows two beautiful alien teenagers who land on earth and establish a tattoo parlour in Camden and this superbly illustrated novel deals with a range of teenage issues, as well as the daily pressures the teenagers face in running their own business.

Company directors David & Esther Bircham and Daley Osiyemi acknowledge that their current achievement is not only the result of their own hard work, combined with outstanding graphic skill, but also of the support they have received along the way, including that from Barclay Thompson of Clear Business Development. Esther says… “Our Business Advisor, Barclay Thompson, is fantastic and has helped us to focus and to put ourselves in a strong strategic position and to see the bigger picture.”

PAULA MACARTHUR

The vivid paintings of Paula MacArthur are now on display at our Freise Greene building on middle street.

Inspired by the sights of the coast, her brash canvasses depict the cheap thrills of the seaside in technicolor overload.
The controlled dripping and merging of viscous paint with translucent glazes combine to create images which are an exuberant
celebration of british holiday culture.

MacArthur has won the prestigious John Player Portrait Award at The National Portait Gallery and the John Moores Biennial at
The Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

Tights Camera Action

Friday 18th June

Make a short film (60 – 90 seconds long) that shows us what you think of the idea of governments taxing the banks to raise money for the poor and the planet.

Closing date: Friday June 18th

www.robinhoodtax.org

The Robin Hood Tax is a tiny tax on banks that would give billions to tackle poverty and climate change, here and abroad. The public have bailed out the banks to the tune of £20 trillion in total. In the UK alone the bailout cost £31,250 per person. Isn’t it now time society was paid back?

The Robin Hood Tax message to governments is clear: “When you tax the banks, don’t just help yourself to the money, make sure the money goes to helping the poor and the planet.”

How To Avoid An Online Traffic Jam

By Neil Barton, Director of Hostway

Recent figures from the UK Online Measurement Company (UKOM) revealed that British internet users spent 884 hours million online in April 2010, two-thirds as much as they did in April 2007. For online businesses this trend is all good news as it can mean more traffic visiting their sites. But how prepared are today's websites for this increase in online traffic?

With increased competition, it is now more necessary than ever to find ways to keep websites engaging. A lot of businesses are using more rich content, such as video and audio, on their websites than ever before in order to attract more visitors and provide the best user experience possible. However, on the flipside, it can slow down the loading speed of web pages, especially if a lot of people are viewing the site at the same time. If a website crashes and fails under the pressure of too many hits at the same time, then visitors are likely to just give up and look elsewhere, potentially costing that business loss in revenue, either through a direct sale or wasted advertising spend.
