CONGRATULATIONS TO HILLINGAR!

HILLINGAR had the privilege of winning Sussex Enterprise’s one to one meeting with Digby Jones at this year’s Really Useful Business Show at the Brighton Centre on October 13th. The Directors talked with Digby about the recession, recovery and breaking through the barriers as a growing business.

“It was great to have a chance to chat with such an experienced business leader. Digby was extremely approachable and offered some great advice for our company a

nd businesses in general.
In these tough times it was great to have Digby’s support, saying HILLINGAR filled a real business need which is particularly relevant as the country comes slowly out of recession and companies are actually at more risk of going bust.” Rob Little.

HILLINGAR enable companies to get the full benefits from one of their biggest assets and biggest potential liability - stock.  Too much wastes money, too little upsets your customers and hurts your revenue. HILLINGAR ensure you get the balance right, increase your profits and all without the cost, risk and hassle of doing it yourself.

HILLINGAR is a Brighton based company and was set up in June 2008 by Tim Griffiths and Rob Little. After nearly 20 years each at Parker Pens based in Newhaven, but working mainly in mainland Europe. Tim and Rob saw a gap in the SME market for an outsourced approach to the often costly and complex field of Sales Forecasting and stock control.

“A recession might not be the ideal time to start a company, but during times of financial constraints every pound counts. It can be shocking how much cash companies can save by fully planning and optimising their stocks.” Tim Griffiths.

BMC JOINS PLATO SUSTAIN

BMC have been invited to join the Plato:Sustain Initiative, which aims to further Business Sustainability across a number of crucial factors. These include Environmental Impact and Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, and the future for business here in the South East. Our M.D. Don Elwick attended the launch this week along with around 100 other local businesses, and heard reports from Plato as to how this 2-year Programme will be run.
There were illuminating presentations:

  • David Grayson on Future Sustainability and whether we move toward the “Scramble” model (get what you can now, forget the future) or the “Blueprint” model (plan and develop best practice, collaboration, and built-in strategies). For him, we are all facing “The Biggest Challenge of Our Lifetime!”

  • Jonathan Porrit, on the theme of the inevitability of improving how we in business create the wealth that is needed for all our livelihoods, and the responsibility we have to deliver that  with integrity. He spoke of the Direction of Travel as being clear and inevitable: ultra-efficient, low-carbon, customer and employee friendly – the only question is about the speed wit which we take action. He gave 5 reasons for taking such action, from Saving Money, to Irrational Passion (his favourite!)

Plato:Sustain looks to be making a real move to solid action for the future, and we are very pleased to be a Partner in this.

MADE09
Brighton’s Design and Craft Fair
20th  – 22nd November, 2009

Special offer for BMC ENews subscribers:
2 tickets for the price of 1!
If you would like to benefit from this offer, please email your name and address to 241@made09.co.uk.

The fourth year of MADE - Brighton's Design and Craft Fair returns to the beautiful Corn Exchange in the heart of the city.

Organisers Jon Tutton and Sarah Young say, “The fair was established to show our commitment to cutting edge design, as well as top quality hand-made craft.  We endeavour to select some of the best designer-makers in the UK, across all disciplines so that the public can purchase original, contemporary work direct from these makers”.

2009 has seen a record number of applicants of an extremely high standard which made the selection process for the organisers incredibly difficult. The upside though of course is that MADE should once again provide the public with a wide range of top quality and often quirky work.

Over 5000 buyers visit MADE over the course of the weekend. The fair is an exciting showcase for the very best in affordable craft, design and applied art and is becoming the most renowned event of its type in the south of England. From intricate glassware to vibrant knitted textiles, elegant ceramics to dazzling jewellery, this is the perfect opportunity for visitors to view and buy unique pieces in a friendly and informal atmosphere. Work is priced between £20 and £1500.

A café providing refreshments and light meals offers a resting place to relax while contemplating purchases.

To ensure an exciting and diverse show featuring the best of contemporary craft and design, over 100 makers will be exhibiting at MADE this year.
