EUGENA... un-der-dressedby LIVE dart Brighton Media Centre Gallery
'Eugena... un-der-dressed' is an installation multimedia performance of the group LIVE dART. The theme is based on the greek folklore fairytale 'Eugena'. It deals with the issues of the transition from adolescence to maturity in a woman's life. Two spaces accommodate alternatively realism and fantasy and give the audience the opportunity to conduct a soul-searching of reminiscences and their evolution throughout the bygone years. |
Eugena… Und-der-dressed is a performance which is based on a traditional fairytale of Eugena by Thedoros Montzeleze (Zante around 1646). This fairytale illustrates a part of our tradition which is relatively unknown not only abroad but also in Greece. A tradition that is a bit dark and pagan without however, diverging from romanticism and didacticism. This performance, though based on a fairytale, is contemporary as we do not follow the story step by step, but we focus on certain notions and themes which derive from it. A basic theme that concerns us is the transition from adolescence to maturity in a woman's life. |
